A phishing attack has claimed yet another victim in Bahrain, who claimed to have lost a staggering BD2,000 from their account.

This, however, is not the first time such an incident has been reported, with several similar cases being covered by The Daily Tribune in the past.

Despite this, it seems that lessons have not been learned.

In this incident, the victim’s wife, describing the ordeal, told The Daily Tribune that the whole episode started with a WhatsApp call informing her husband that his BenefitPay account had been hacked.

“The caller then instructed us to follow certain steps, which we did, ultimately resulting in the loss of all our money.”

The couple has since filed a complaint with the police, and an investigation is ongoing.

According to cybersecurity experts, staying vigilant while on social media is of the utmost importance.

Also remember not to respond to calls or text messages from unfamiliar individuals, particularly when asked to provide confidential details like passwords, usernames, CPR numbers, and OTP codes.

Experts say that by staying cautious and informed, individuals can protect themselves from falling prey to phishing attacks and scams.
