A man has been charged with cheating in the Lower Criminal Court of Bahrain for tricking a gold jewellery salesman into believing he had received an online payment for completing sales.
The accused promised to transfer the money to the shop’s account but instead sent a request for the same amount and convinced the salesman that the transaction had been completed.
He then left the shop with the purchased item.
It was only after the man had left the shop with the gold that the salesman realized he had been deceived.
He discovered that the receipt shown to him was a payment request for the billed amount and not a receipt for the payment received.
The shop registered a complaint with the police, who managed to apprehend the suspect following an investigation.
Further investigation revealed that the accused was a habitual offender and had used the same trick to cheat other gold shops in the area.
The public prosecutor charged him with cheating and sent him for trial before the lower criminal court.
Officials said this incident highlights the importance of being cautious when conducting online transactions, especially for high-value purchases.
