Over recent weeks, citizens and residents in Bahrain have noticed the abundance of greenery and foliage along various areas and roads across the kingdom, sparking positive online discussions.
Thanks to various initiatives and projects implemented by the government, Bahrain is taking salient strides to turn the Kingdom green and promote sustainability.
Not only does planting greenery around the island create an allure, it also promotes environmental awareness about the concerning high temperatures and the substandard air quality in the country.
According to IQAir, Bahrain is ranked among the top five most polluted countries for air quality in 2022. So, as the Kingdom continues to plant trees, shrubs, and plants, this can improve the air quality in Bahrain, as plants can clean the air and remove harmful gases.
The Daily Tribune spoke to the people to gauge their opinions about the Kingdom transforming into a green nation. Hannah, a Bahrain resident, said: “As much as I love Bahrain, I have always disliked the fact that every time I go out, there are rows of concrete and sand to look at, instead of greenery and flowers.”
She appreciates the value and beauty of being surrounded by nature and the initiatives the government is taking to divert Bahrain into a green nation. The Daily Tribune previously reported that Stc Bahrain, a world-class digital enabler, had successfully concluded the first phase of its “Trees for Life” campaign in collaboration with the Supreme Council for Environment, and the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture.
As the Kingdom works to develop more greenery and nature into the country, they developed a campaign that aims to support natural afforestation plans to double the number of trees in Bahrain from 1.8 to 3.6 million trees by 2035.
However, the initiatives taken by the Kingdom aren’t just to make the country appear more beautiful or natural; planting more trees and plants essentially strengthens its efforts to implement the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change goals.
Despite the tremendous progress the government has taken to go green, more work still must be done, as an online user wrote: “Hamad Town and Juffair still require a lot of work, as it is filled with only buildings and pavement, due to the ongoing construction, specifically in Juffair.”
However, he said that residents living in those areas have taken their own initiative to plant flowers and shrubs around their homes, encouraging others to plant as well. According to the latest information, stc Bahrain has planted 35,000 trees across the Kingdom, reaching 25 per cent of Bahrain’s target.
