In recent years, Bahrain has seen a significant rise in demand for tech degrees. With the increasing role of technology in various industries, more and more students are recognising the value of pursuing degrees in this field.

According to the Ministry of Education, the number of students enrolled in tech programs has increased by over 50% in the past five years.

This trend is expected to continue as the demand for skilled tech professionals grows in Bahrain and the wider Gulf region. One reason for the rise in demand for tech degrees is the increasing importance of digital transformation in businesses.

With the shift towards remote work and online services, companies are seeking professionals who can help them adapt to this new reality. This has created a demand for graduates with expertise in areas such as cybersecurity, data analytics, and cloud computing.

The Bahrain government has been actively promoting the development of the country’s tech sector through initiatives such as the Bahrain Tech Fund, which provides funding and support for startups in the tech industry.

This has helped to create a vibrant ecosystem for tech innovation and entrepreneurship, which in turn has attracted more students to pursue tech degrees. Tamkeen, Bahrain’s labour fund, has also launched a new cybersecurity program aimed at developing the skills of Bahraini nationals in the field of cybersecurity.

The program is part of Tamkeen’s efforts to support the development of the country’s workforce and to meet the growing demand for cybersecurity professionals in the region.

Cybersecurity is a sought-after career option in Bahrain, particularly in financial services, information technology, and manufacturing. As a result of the widespread shift to remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the frequency of cyberattacks has increased, leading to a surge in demand for qualified cybersecurity professionals in both the private and public sectors of the country.

Several universities in Bahrain offer tech programs, including University of Bahrain, Bahrain Polytechnic, and Ahlia University. These programs cover a wide range of specialisations, from computer science to information technology to engineering.

Many of these programs also offer opportunities for students to gain practical experience through internships and industry partnerships. The rise in demand for tech degrees has not gone unnoticed by the government and educational institutions in Bahrain.

They are working to ensure that students have access to the latest technologies and training, as well as opportunities to connect with industry professionals and potential employers.
