It’s time to gradually ease back into a healthy diet after a month of fasting. However, going back to the regular three meals a day can be a bit tricky for the children.

For children who have been fasting during the holy month of Ramadan, dietician Anfal Ali advises gradual increase of food intake to help their bodies adopt a new digestion pattern after a month of fasting.

There are many tips that will help them get back their eating schedule and prevent them from any kind of digestive and other health related disorders.

A sufficient diet, proper hydration, a regular sleep pattern, and physical activities are all necessary for re-establishing the children’s daily routine, according to nutritionist Anfal Abbas Ali at Bahrain Specialist Hospital.

Gradually return the children to their regular eating habits by adding a meal or snack and slowly increasing water intake to avoid overloading the stomach.

Dietician Anfal explained in an interview with The Daily Tribune that the body needs to reproduce itself to begin eating again in the first part of the day, the necessary step for that is not to skip breakfast.

“Start the day with fresh fruits or fresh juice. One of the best foods to eat is a banana, apple, or sweet lime, it will refresh the body and give them enough energy to start the day.

The post-Ramadan transition requires proper portions and resuming normal meal times, with dietary habits and timing of food intake playing important roles “You can obtain adequate fiber by eating veggies, fresh salads, and whole grains for your evening meals.”

She also emphasized that to keep children healthy and strong during Eid, moderation in consuming sweets and avoiding junk food is essential.

In addition to this, she encouraged parents to help their children return to their regular routines and plan their meals and timings accordingly.

“Encourage them to do more outdoor physical activities like playing football, basketball etc. rather than sitting with gadgets games,” she added.

She added that parents should pack their children’s tiffin boxes with fruits and vegetables that have a high water content, such as watermelon, oranges, grapes, and cucumber, to prevent dehydration.
