The Youth Pioneer Society and the French Embassy in Bahrain have announced the opening of registration for the first sustainable development hackathon.

The Green Youth Hackathon is implemented by the society in partnership with the Bahrain Scientific Center for Sustainable Development Goals, The Collective Hub Incubator, Upgradelle and Fives Gulf Services as the sponsor of the event.

Amira Mahmoud Mohamed, Chairperson of the Youth Pioneer Society, said: “We are pleased to announce the opening of registration for the first Green Youth Hackathon entitled “Sustainability and Climate Change,” which aims to support and develop economically sustainable projects that enhance Goals 12 and 13 of the Sustainable Development Goals.

It will bring together a mixture of entrepreneurs, sustainable development goals experts, social scientists and youth from Bahrain who are interested in sustainability.”

Amira explained that the hackathon targets youth in Bahrain of both sexes between 18 and 30 years old. The participants will be divided into work teams with the aim of engaging in a quick and collaborative activity to design a collective entrepreneurship project.

The teams will present their projects to a professional jury that will choose the best innovative and sustainable entrepreneurship project. France Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain, HE Mr Jerome Cauchard, said: “As French President Emmanuel Macron said in 2017, we must make our planet great again.

This hackathon aims to support innovative, creative and effective sustainable development projects in Bahrain. “With the support of French expertise, this hackathon will empower young people in Bahrain to take action and develop ambitious and high-impact projects. I invite all enthusiastic youth in Bahrain to apply. It is a unique opportunity to gain competencies and knowledge while developing high impact social and environmental projects.”

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the society and the French Embassy invited young people interested in participating in this hackathon to visit the Instagram account of the society @youthpioneer and the account of the French Embassy @francebahrein to register before May 10.
