Bahrain has been hailed as a “model to be emulated” for gender balance and equality at the global level by Inter-Parliamentary Union President Duarte Pacheco.

According to Pacheco, Bahrain’s governance of gender balance applications and the launch of supportive executive tools have proven their usefulness and raised women’s participation in the national development process.

In this regard, Pacheco emphasised the importance of gender balance and equality as fundamental pillars of human rights, democracy, peace, and development.

His comments came in a press statement following a forum organised by the Supreme Council for Women in collaboration with the Shura and Representatives councils during the 146th IPU Assembly.

The IPU President stressed that Bahrain’s integrated model based on its fair constitutional principles, updated legislative system, and effective executive procedures has resulted in the growing number of female members of the Council of Representatives.

The IPU President also expressed eagerness to promote gender equality and share best practices among parliaments worldwide. He also welcomed the launch of the Parliamentary Handbook for Main-streaming Women’s Needs, which supports Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to achieve gender balance.

He stressed the importance of exchanging expertise and experiences at the global level and underscored the significance of gender balance in parliamentary work itself. He commended the SCW’s launch of a reference guide for parliamentary work and called on the IPU to share Bahrain’s experience with its member states to promote gender balance and equality globally.
