The Ministry of Works announced achieving a major milestone yesterday in the Al Fateh Mosque tunnel project by completing its concrete casting work.
The ministry said it prepared an integrated plan to ensure continuous work, considering the large amount of concrete used and the sensitivity of the project area.
It took over 180 workers, supervisors, and engineers work continuously for over 12 hours to complete the project.
They used an enormous 330 truckloads of concrete for the cast that is two meters deep, 36 meters wide and 31 meters long.
The structure also took in 297 tonnes of iron manufactured in Saudi Arabia.
The workers employed five pumps continuously, with another two on standby, to pour the concrete.
The project comprises 21 concrete tunnels, three of which will have roofs for an intersection managed by light signals at the ground level.
The completion rate of the tunnel is 70%, while the total completion rate of the project is 63%.
The Al-Fateh Street development project aims to increase the vehicle capacity per day to reach 140,000, up 61% from the current 87,000 vehicles per day.
The Ministry of Works thanked the General Directorate of Traffic for patrols to monitor and control traffic during the casting process and the movement of trucks.
