Four Asians face investigation in Bahrain for drug smuggling

The Anti-Narcotics Directorate, in collaboration with Customs Affairs, apprehended four Asians in yet another incidence of drug smuggling into Bahrain and prevented the transportation of narcotics via mail packages.
Officials were able to intercept the smuggling of narcotics worth around BD 100,000. The four Asians, aged 30 to 33, are being probed for their suspected involvement in the crime.
After receiving information from airport customs authorities about the sent item, the anti-narcotics officers immediately began searching for and gathering evidence. As a result, the four Asians were apprehended.
For the purpose of transferring the case to the Public Prosecution, the seized articles were retained and necessary legal measures were taken.
The Daily Tribune recently reported on a case in which six Asians were arrested for trafficking drugs inside potatoes.
The package contained almost 33 kg of hashish and another form of a drug called locally "shabu," valued at BD 700,000.
Customs Affairs recorded 830 illicit substances, pills, and substance trafficking activities at customs ports in 2022, up 48% from 2021.
In 2021, 560 smuggling cases were reported. They added that the seizures contained around 478 kilograms of narcotic drugs and approximately 241,000 pills.
According to Brig-Gen Abdulaziz Mayouf, the purpose is to provide a secure and straightforward way to report drug instances while maintaining anonymity and security.
“The departments always work to improve the community and are crucial in spreading awareness through lecturers and exhibitions in various governorates,” he said.
