A meeting was held yesterday to discuss Bahrain’s progress in implementing gender balance and equality by establishing cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

This came as the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) Secretary General, Hala Al Ansari, received Csaba Korosi, the President of the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

They reviewed ways to promote Bahrain’s plans, initiatives and programmes through the SCW to ensure the active participation of women in achieving sustainable development.

Al Ansari affirmed the keenness of the SCW, led by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of His Majesty the King, to strengthen cooperation with the UN in various women-related developmental fields.

She emphasised the SCW’s readiness to provide the knowledge and tools needed to achieve gender balance and equality at a national level. The resulting performance measurement indicators and qualitative recommendations will perform as a guide to authorities and national institutions, she added.

Korosi stressed that these meetings are within the UN’s framework to pursue cooperation with SCW and serve all women related issues.
