Social Development Minister Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al Asfoor reaffirmed Bahrain’s support for Sudan during its challenging situation and urged the warring parties to stop escalating hostilities and work toward a peaceful resolution.

He said that Bahrain is committed to supporting international efforts to provide all forms of humanitarian and social support in a way that improves the situation in Sudan.

The Kingdom is also doing everything in its power to help Sudan end the crisis for the benefit of the Sudanese people, the Minister added. Al Asfoor was speaking as he participated in the extraordinary session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, organised by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, the Social Affairs Sector.

The participants in the virtual meeting discussed the humanitarian and social conditions in Sudan. During the session, the armed conflicts in Sudan, which resulted in numerous casualties and a steady rise in the number of injured, along with the humanitarian and social conditions, were reviewed.

The Council members expressed their support to efforts between the League of Arab States and the Sudanese government to aid displaced Sudanese, as well as to offer health, medical, food, and social care support to civilians in conflict zones.

The Council instructed the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs to present a report on the subject to the next session of the 43rd Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council directed the General Secretariat of the Social Affairs Sector to purchase social and humanitarian support supplies and work to deliver them to those in need in coordination with the relevant Arab and international organisations to mitigate the humanitarian and social effects in Sudan.
