Worker crushed to death in Bahrain

A construction worker died this morning when some heavy metal fell from crane while at work at North City.

Filipino Luis Mendoza Matunding, aged 56, was working on his routine duty on Tuesday when this unfortunate incident happened.  He died on the spot. The cause of the incident is said to be the breaking of the rope with which the object was hanging from the crane.

Speaking to the DT News, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour, Subah Salem Al Dossari said that this was quite an unfortunate event and he offered his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.

Mr. Dossari said that investigations are in progress to determine the exact cause of the death. He said that it was the responsibility of the companies to ensure the smooth and safe working environment for their workers.

“The lives of the workers are very precious and the companies should take all the necessary measures for their safety,” he adds.

Vice Counsel Philippine Embassy Bahrain Ricky Aragon told the DT News that the Ministry of Interior is doing an investigation on the incident and when it is done and the necessary procedures are followed then the body of Matunding will be flown back to Philippine. He refused to share further details saying that his family did not want them to issue details to the media and the embassy respected the wishes of their countrymen.

Another worker suffered slight injuries.
