Bahrain-UK ties bound by solid foundations, extended history: HRH Prince Salman

HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, hailed yesterday the ties between Bahrain and Britain as robust, based on solid foundations and extended history.

HRH stressed that this strategic dimension of the relationships had strengthened the bilateral cooperation between the two nations and expanded its scope.

The comments came as HRH Prince Salman held talks yesterday with James Cleverly, the Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, on the sidelines of his visit to attend the coronation ceremony of King Charles III.

HRH further told Cleverly that Bahrain, under the leadership of HM King, is keen to enhance its partnership with the UK by pursuing high-quality opportunities.

Additionally, HRH Prince Salman conveyed his gratitude to Cleverly for the warm reception Bahrain leaders received during the coronation ceremony of King Charles III of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Head of the Commonwealth.

The two leaders also discussed several issues of mutual concern and reviewed the latest developments on the regional and international stages.

Foreign Affairs Minister lauds deep-rooted ties with the UK Separately, Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, yesterday lauded the depth of the Bahraini-British ties, which he said will continue to flourish towards more constructive cooperation and solid strategic partnership.

The deep-rooted ties, the minister said, will remain as a model for friendly and allied countries, expressing gratitude to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and King Charles III for their interest in the boosting bilateral ties.

He also emphasised the need to implement the outcomes of the 15th Bahraini-British Joint Committee meeting held in Manama in February 2023.

In this regard, the minister applauded the efforts of the two countries’ diplomatic missions, led by Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Bahrain’s ambassador to the UK, and Roderick Drummond, the UK’s ambassador to Bahrain.

He also lauded the progress made in the talks for Free Trade Agreement between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the United Kingdom, as well as the decision to exempt Bahraini citizens from entry visas for tourism, treatment, and education purposes, as more than 1,500 Bahraini students are studying in
