The British Ambassador to Bahrain, H.E. Roderick Drummond, hosted a screening reception to celebrate the coronation of the United Kingdom's King Charles III on Monday.

Ambassador Drummond and his wife, Yasmin, were joined by His Majesty King Hamad’s Personal Representative Shaikh Abdulla bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Bahrain Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam, Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif Al Zayani, Oil and Environment Minister Mohammed bin Dainah, Health Minister Dr. Jaleela bint Sayed Jawad, Youth Minister Rawan Najeeb Tawfeeqi, Social Development Minister Osama Khalaf AlAsfoor, members of the British Community, Bahraini government representatives, parliamentarians, business leaders, diplomatic corps, and media.

Over 700 guests enjoyed a video with archived footage of the royal coronation, along with programmes and photographs from the procession, to mark the coronation day. On May 6, at the ancient Westminster Abbey in the heart of London, the Archbishop of Canterbury crowned Their Majesties the King and Queen, with guests from all over the world flocking to London to witness the historic occasion.

Heads of state from around the globe, including His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, attended the coronation ceremony, the first since Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in June 1953.

Ambassador Drummond highlighted the personal interest that King Charles III has taken to ensure that the themes of youth, community, sustainability, and diversity were reflected in the ceremony, making the event not only a celebration of the monarchy but also a reflection of the values and aspirations of the people of the UK.

He added, “The king wants to make it clear that these celebrations bring in all aspects of British society." The ceremony itself had religious leaders representing Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Buddhism. All Christian denominations were represented, too. It warms our hearts to see how Bahrainis are involved and excited when it comes to the British royal family. "It is great to take part in a unique and international celebration.”

Ambassador Drummond praised the historic and "extremely close relationship" between the two kingdoms, highlighting that cooperation between the two countries is on an upward trajectory in all areas, particularly in terms of trade and investment ties, with bilateral trade between the two countries standing at £3.1 billion.
