European Film Nights to screen award-winning films from six countries

The second edition of the "European Film Nights" will be held in Bahrain from May 17 to 31 at the Alliance Française in Isa Town with films from six European countries: Germany, Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic, Estonia, and France.
The event is organised by the European Union Delegation, the French Embassy, the German Embassy, and the Italian Embassy in cooperation with the Alliance Française in Bahrain.
The movies
In addition to the main event, a special screening of the Ukrainian film "My Thoughts are Silent" will take place on May 14th. This comedy-drama is about a sound engineer's attempt to record the song of a rare bird that lives in the Ukrainian mountains.
The film received a Special Jury Award at the International Film Festival Karlovy Vary. On May 17th, the festival will feature the 2020 German drama "The Audition", which tells the story of a violin teacher's obsessive hopes for a raw young student, creating creeping tension at work and home.
The film won the Golden Shell for Best Film at the San Sebastián International Film Festival and Best Actress at the Stockholm International Film Festival. On May 21st, the Spanish film "Schoolgirls" will be screened.
The film is about an 11-year-old girl trying to reconcile the conservative and repressive teachings at her convent school with the free-spirited fun offered by a new student. The film won several awards, including the Malaga Spanish Film Festival, Goya Awards, Gaudi Awards, Feroz Awards, Cinema Writers Circle Awards, Brussels International Film Festival, and ASECAN.
On May 24th, the Italian movie "My Brother Chases Dinosaurs" will be featured. It is about a teenager struggling with the fact that his younger brother has Down Syndrome and trying to conceal his existence to avoid coping with his odd behaviour.
The film won the Venice 2019 Giornate degli Autori. On May 27th, the Czech film "Even Mice Belong in Heaven" will be screened. The film is about two mortal enemies, a little mouse and a fox, who meet in animal heaven after an unfortunate accident.
They lose their natural instincts and become best friends. The film won the Czech Lion Award for Best Animated Film. On May 28th, the Estonian film "The Little Comrade" will be shown. It features the 1950 resistance movement in the countryside of Estonia.
A girl does not understand why her mother was arrested or why her father was upset when she cheered on the young pioneers as they marched. Finally, on May 31st, the festival will conclude with the 2020 French comedy "The Big Hit".
The film is about an actor past his prime who gives drama lessons to prisoners in an attempt to stage "Waiting for Godot". The film won the Festival International de Film de Saint-Jean-deLuz, Ghent International Film Festival, and Odesa International Film Festival.
The festival aims to showcase the work of European filmmakers from different countries, backgrounds, and styles, echoing the EU motto, "united in diversity".
EU Ambassador to Bahrain Patrick Simonnet said, "The EU Film Festival in Bahrain serves as evidence of cinema's ability to bring people together and foster cultural exchange." The German Ambassador to Bahrain, who currently holds the local EU-Presidency in the country, thanked Alliance Française for hosting the Film Festival.
