Ministry completes over 11,000 requests for rainwater restoration and insulation

The Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture announced completing 11,847 requests for Rainwater restoration and insulation works, since the launch of Cities and Village Development project, until last year.

Shaikh Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Undersecretary of Municipal Affairs, said the ministry completed 3,408 requests within the Cities and Villages Development Project and 8,439 within the Rain Insulation Project.

The Cities and Villages Development Project was launched in 2006 with the aim of improving the living standards of low-income families in the Kingdom. This year, Shaikh Mohammad said, they received 113 requests for rain insulation and another 126 through the Cities project for maintenance and restoration, where the completion rate is 90%.

He said the ministry is working in coordination with concerned municipal councils in accordance with the budget approved for the project.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the project, applicants must meet certain standards.

Firstly, they must be Bahraini nationals aged 18 or older and own the dwelling, either entirely or partially. Additionally, the family must have lived in the house for more than a decade, and the monthly income of the head of household should not exceed 600 dinars.

The applicant must not own any other property and should be the proprietor of a land area of at least 150 square meters without receiving any income from it. The applicant’s CPR and address should match, and approval from all owners is necessary if the property is owned by multiple people.

Lastly, the applicant should not have benefitted from the project or any other services provided by the Ministry before. These criteria ensure that only deserving applicants receive support from the project.

The maximum cost for maintenance and restoration of applications falling under this service is 10,000 dinars, which includes the housing allowance. The applications are submitted electronically by municipal councils and the Capital Municipality Council and are reviewed by the Department of Urban Development. Once it is confirmed that the application meets all project requirements, it is accepted and put up for tender.
