In a bizarre incident, shoe thieves are allegedly running riot in Hoora and nearby places. The locals clamour for action to be taken against these shoe robbers. Sources say many tenants have been losing their shoes and footwear to thieves, and their complaints lodged with landlords are falling on deaf ears.

Many victims also think that it is too naive to report such things to the police, sources added. Fasiha Shamil Muhammed, a resident of Hoora, told The Daily Tribune: “I moved to Bahrain in 2017 and have lived here ever since. I’ve been dealing with this situation for the past two years.

“I live on the third floor, and I keep a shoe rack just outside my apartment door so that my five-year-old can store his shoes outside after leaving the playground, as well as for myself and my husband to keep our sandals and shoes outside. “On certain days when I get home late, I can’t find my shoes outdoors.

This incident has occurred more than five times.” She further said, “We have complained to the landlords numerous times, but there has been no response. Our building is quite old, and we have requested that they install cameras for increased protection.

“The summer is here, and it’s quite humid; we can’t keep the windows open to get rid of the smell of shoes because it’s within the house. For these reasons, we don’t want shoe racks inside the flat.”

“Lastly, we request to spread awareness about how important it is to be cautious about leaving valuables outside since there are so many robbers out and about,” she added. Ahmad Shahab, another local, told a similar story to The Daily Tribune that he had to walk barefoot to his distant car after losing two pairs of shoes in the mosque during Ramadan last month due to theft.
