The Lower Criminal Court sentenced a defendant to one year in jail and fined him BD21,000 for breaching Bahrain's Environmental Protection Law No. 7/2022.

The suspect committed offences such as dumping environmentally prohibited waste into the sea, said the Chief Prosecutor of Ministries and Public Bodies.

The Public Prosecution had previously received a notification from the Supreme Council for the Environment that during periodic inspection visits to the western border sea, it discovered that the accused had polluted the sea coast and water by dumping environmentally prohibited waste, including large quantities of wood, construction waste and nylon.

As a result, legal action was filed against the defendant, who was advised to stop dumping and remove the waste. Following receipt of the notice, the Public Prosecution initiated an investigation and turned in the suspect to the Lower Criminal Court, where he was tried.
