Two get jail in drug case

Two Pakistani men accused of promoting heroin in Muharraq have been jailed for 15 years each. They were each fined BD5,000 by the High Criminal Court, which ordered to deport them after completing their sentence.

The accused are said to have been getting the illicit drugs from a man named Adnan residing in Pakistan and smuggling them into Bahrain later.

They were reportedly transferring the money raised through their unlawful activities to Adnan through local exchange companies.

However, following a tip-off,  the area in which they were active in distributing the drugs were closely surveyed by police officers.

They saw the defendants hiding an object under a car tyre in a public car parking in Muharraq. Police swooped in immediately, and found a cigarette box with heroin stashed inside.

The accused were captured with heroin capsules. Detectives later uncovered BD1170 and 6290 Pakistani rupees (around BD22) from their apartment during a raid.
