Tent sales bring cheers to traders during camping season

With the camping season gaining momentum, the demand for tents has spurred its sales in the Kingdom. The dip in temperature has also given a fillip to the camping season. According to Binu Radhakrishnan, the Manager (Administration) of Rahal Tent and Picnic Accessories, selling activities rise during the camping season as demand for tents increases. His shop is the only place in East Riffa area where tents are available.

To meet excessive demands, they have opened a temporary shop in Sakhir also. “During the camping season, most of the sales activities are handled from our Sakhir office. All the tenting items have been stored there. But Riffa office remains open throughout the year,” he said.

This year’s camping season started on October 25 and it will conclude on March 5. But the tent sellers remain busy in November and December.

Binu said that they had good business during Ramadan also. They usually fix tents for mosques during this Holy Month. On other occasions, they receive orders to fix tents for weddings. “But the beginning months of camping season are the busiest months for tent dealers.”

On other seasons, they deal with aluminium and steel tents too. But traditional tents enter the market during camping season. Usually they deal with two kinds of traditional tents in this season. One is called as Al Khadi Sakhama tents and the other is Pakistani.

Al Khadi Sakhama tents are known for their quality and they are expensive too. And therefore, very few people buy these tents. The Pakistani tents, little inferior in quality, are highly preferred by the camping lovers.

During Ramadan season and other events, they take up the task of installing tents. Therefore, they have the task of dismantling them too. “Camping season is not like that. We just restrict our activities to selling the tents. Therefore, they carry out selling activities in November and December and take a small break thereafter,” remarked Binu.

Though tents make of a major share of the total business, there are other equipment, which are also sold along with tents. They might be chairs, tables, carpets, sofa and cabin toilets etc.

During summer, there is a demand for air conditioners, fans, coolers and water fans too. But camping season does not require all these equipment since the weather is pleasant. But the other items are essential part of camping in Sakhir, when the whole of Bahrain flocks to the desert to rejoice amid the balmy weather.

According to events and marketing specialist Rashid Riaz, this camping season would be a vibrant one as long weekend awaits next month. In December, National Day holidays are followed by weekends, making it convenient for people to remain away from the hustle- bustle of city life for a longer period. Tent dealers too have a role in making the camping season more lively and spirited.
