The Filipino community in Bahrain joins the celebration of the 125th anniversary of Philippine independence around the world today.
This year’s celebration theme is "Kalayaan. Kinabukasan. Kasaysayan. (Freedom. Future. History.)" The commemoration highlights the birth of the Filipino nation from the proclamation of Philippine independence on June 12, 1898, in Kawit, Cavite, until the end of the first Filipino government, which lasted until the capture of President Emilio Aguinaldo in Palanan, Isabela, on March 23, 1901.
"This indicates the Philippines’ place in history as the earliest modern democracy and republic in Asia, with a long history of upholding democratic ideals and principles, universal human rights, justice, the rule of law, and the values of freedom and sovereignty," said the Philippine Ambassador to Bahrain, Anne Jalando-on Louis, in her message on the occasion.
"Even with our differences, we stand united, moving forward towards development and progress. I wish all my countrymen in the Kingdom of Bahrain a most meaningful celebration of Philippine Independence Day," the Ambassador said.
"May we all continue to remain inspired and encouraged by the legacy of our heroes and forebears who fought for our country’s freedom more than a century ago. I hope that the fire of love for our country and for our people will remain burning in your hearts even as you find yourselves working and living overseas."
