No change in pattern for travel to Europe

Travel agents have noted no change in pattern for travel to Europe despite security concerns there.

Despite the security fears in Europe since the past week, following the terrorist attacks in Paris, Bahrain-based travellers are not refraining from travelling to Europe, travel agents have said. Cancellation of travel plans to Europe, particularly France, although reported, has been rare.

European countries are on high alert after the terror attacks last Friday. After leaving the US, two Air France planes, whose original destination was Paris, had to be diverted because of bomb threats. Friendly football match between Germany and the Netherlands was cancelled on Tuesday because of terror threat at the Hannover stadium. Another match in which Belgium was to play Spain was also called off due to heightened terror threat.

“We have not seen a change in pattern for the travel to Europe and we are looking forward to the month of December for more travel to take place to Europe due to Christmas and New Year. We have not seen any cancellations due to security fears and we are hopeful that the same trend continues,” Dadabhai Travel Operations and E Commerce Vice President Nithin Menon told DT News.

Echoing a similar view, Al Faisal Travel Agency General Manager Naushad Kutty said: “There has been no change in pattern for travel to any European country. We have not had any cancellations but business has been generally poor for this industry this year. Even with reduced travel rates, customers are still refraining from travelling. We are not sure why,” he said.

Al Kobaisi Travel & Tours General Manager Vincent Thomas noted that there were two cancellations in the past week. “We have had cancellations. So far, two families have cancelled their trip to France. But, we cannot say that there has been a drop in travellers to Europe,” he said.
