Gulf Air to recruit secret agents for safety cover

Gulf Air flights may soon have armoured secret agents to ensure no terrorist activities target the safety of passengers. The security agents are sought to be part of a new security body that works under the umbrella of Interior Ministry. 

This was stated while a proposal was discussed during the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs, National Security and Defence Committee weekly meeting yesterday.

The proposal, which was presented to the committee by a group of MPs, aims at protecting the national carrier from kidnapping and terrorist attacks.

It stipulated that armoured secret agents should be provided on all flights. The committee approved the proposal and referred it to the Parliament Chairman’s Office for further studying.

The meeting was chaired by MP Abdulla Binhowail and attended by committee members Mohammed Al Jowder, Nabeel Al Balooshi, Abdulrahman Bumjaid and Khalifa Al Ghanem, in addition to the committee’s legal consultant.

A number of proposals were approved by the committee during the meeting. It includes increasing the number of driving instructors at the driving school, establishment of a general directorate in Interior Ministry to combat narcotics and protect public morals and to initiate a campaign to fight immoral phenomena.

Also deporting of all expats involved in prostitution cases and preventing them from entering the Kingdom in future was also discussed.
