Bahrain park to impose entry fee

Entry fees will be soon imposed on the visitors of the Khalifa Al Kubra Garden in Riffa, informed Southern Municipal Council Chairman Ahmed Al Ansari here yesterday. Al Ansari explained that the decision was taken to limit “unwanted behaviours” in Khalifa Al Kubra Garden, one of the largest public parks in the Southern Governorate.

He stated that the unwelcomed behaviours observed were mainly done by some of the expat communities. “Some behaviours have been repeating in the garden. These conducts are unfamiliar and

rejected in the Bahraini society and contradicts with our customs and traditions, such as vandalism and misuse of the garden’s facilities. Large amounts of money were paid to fix and maintain what have been destroyed,” Al Ansari elaborated. He confirmed that “the proposal was submitted to the council by a councillor, who said it would curb the increasing numbers of visitors to the garden, subsequently the violations,” adding that “the number of visitors exceeds the garden’s capacity.”

Sources told DT News that the proposed fee was estimated at BD0.300 per person.

The councillor explained, “The fees would be a source of income to the municipality’s budget. At the same time it would contribute in reducing the huge numbers of visitors to the garden.”

Al Ansari added, “The garden consists of 26,000 square metres of green landscape and trees, in addition to 3,000 square metres of playgrounds. We only have 10 security men and 20 workers, who are supervising the whole garden. With the existing large numbers of visitors, it’s difficult for the current staff to control these crowds.”

Opened in 2012, Khalifa Al Kubra Garden has been a preferred destination for hundreds of visitors everyday.
