Focus on ways to restructure subsidy system in Bahrain

The government subsidy system yesterday took centre stage during a joint coordination meeting held between the executive and the legislative branches.
The meeting focused on ways to restructure the government subsidy system to ensure that subsidies are directed to those who deserve them.
Present were the First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives, MP Abdulnabi Salman, First Deputy Chairman of the Shura Council, Jamal Mohammed Fakhro, and Parliament Affairs Minister, Ghanim bin Fadhl Al Buainain.
The government’s side was also represented by Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Minister, Wael bin Nasser Al-Mubarak, Social Development Minister, Osama bin Ahmed Al-Asfoor, Cabinet Affairs Minister, Hamad bin Faisal Al-Maliki, and Housing and Urban Planning Minister, Amna bint Ahmed Al Romaihi.
Meanwhile, members of the bureaus of the Shura and Representatives councils, also represented the legislative branch during the coordination meeting.
During the meeting, the joint committee agreed that the principle of its work is to make sure that government subsidies are directed to the most deserving citizen.
The ultimate goal is to ensure optimal use of the funds allocated for subsidies in the state general budget, the panel stressed.
