Traffic cops keep tab on violations in Manama Souq

To facilitate traffic movement in the Manama Souq as well as Bab Al Bahrain area, traffic police have taken action against traffic violators. They issued challans to the drivers, who break the traffic rules in the area.

According to a local gold shop employee Joackim, of late, the traffic police visit the area at least four times a day. Fines were extracted from drivers who parked their vehicles in wrong places and the parking area beyond the prescribed time.

Joackim said the traffic congestion had come down in the busy market due to the intervention by the police.

“This is a good sign. Since traffic police are continuously monitoring the area, every motorist is careful here. For a couple of days, the traffic movement has been flawless in the congested roads of the souq,” he added.

Meanwhile, local trader Abdul Karim Al Fulaij commented: “The police are especially targeting the cars parked in the parking area beyond the specified time. The roads of Manama Souq are highly congested and finding a parking space is a challenging task. If the police act tough, the number of customers visiting the Souq will come down,” he opined.

“Even people park their vehicles for 10 more minutes beyond the specified time, they will have to pay fines. So people are worried that they might end up paying hefty fines even though they visit here for buying goods worth BD5,” he added.
