Cleaning companies in Bahrain are effectively removing 2,200 tons of waste each day, according to a report by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture.
The report further states that this significant task requires the dedicated efforts of a 3,000-strong workforce consisting of cleaners, drivers, inspectors, and officials across all four governorates.
It highlights that the majority of the waste collected, accounting for over 72%, originates from households. Additionally, around 8% of the waste is attributed to construction and demolition activities, while the rest comprises domestic, commercial, and agricultural materials.
To efficiently carry out these operations, the ministry said it operates a fleet of 260 vehicles, including automated sweeping vehicles, compact garbage trucks of varying sizes, waste transport trucks, towing vehicles, and specialised cranes.
Special teams are also deployed to remove scrap cars, advertisements, and water, as well as to clean streets, parking lots, and sidewalks. The quality of their work is closely monitored by officials, who actively listen to complaints and suggestions from the public.
GPS systems integrated into the vehicles help calculate their workload and working hours accurately. Furthermore, the teams of inspectors from both the municipalities and cleaning companies collaborate to monitor municipal violations, issue notifications, and supervise the removal of abandoned and for-sale cars from sidewalks.
The Ministry also said it ensures preparedness for emergencies, such as sandstorms and heavy rainfall, with a dedicated special team. Their comprehensive efforts contribute to maintaining the cleanliness of the Kingdom.
