Bahrain, acting on behalf of the Arab States, reiterated call for permanent Arab representation with full powers in the United Nations Security Council.

The Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York H.E. Ambassador Jamal Fares Alrowaiei, who serves as the coordinator of the Arab Group, also emphasised the importance of fair representation by advocating for proportionate Arab presence in the non-permanent seats of an expanded Security Council.

These statements were made following the unanimous adoption of a resolution by the UN General Assembly, addressing the reform of the Security Council in the upcoming session.

The resolution allows member states to collaborate and devise a mutually agreeable solution for comprehensive Security Council reform.

The Arab Group expressed satisfaction with the resolution and stated that it creates an opportunity for ongoing intergovernmental negotiations aimed at reforming the UN Security Council.
