The High Appeals Court has rejected the appeal filed by a European woman convicted of human trafficking a teenager into Bahrain.
The 32-year-old woman was sentenced to 10 years in prison, while the 33-year-old woman received only three years. Both were fined BD2,000 and deported upon completion of their jail time.
The first defendant lured the 19-year-old girl to Bahrain after offering her a fake job opportunity to work as a fashion model. She locked her up in a furnished apartment with the help of the second defendant, forcing her into prostitution.
The victim is said to have been told to pay $2,500 in return for her freedom.
The victim managed to reach her embassy, which alerted the police, and a squad was sent for her rescue. The defendants were charged with human trafficking and forcing the teenager into prostitution.
