Women experts in Artificial Intelligence discussed the importance of AI for the future during the 3rd International Conference of Data “Future of Everything” which was held yesterday via a webinar.

The conference was held by the Shura Council and under the patronage of Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, the Chairman of Shura Council. Dr Jassim Haji, chairman of the conference and president of the International Group of Artificial Intelligence, in his opening remarks praised the Kingdom for its efforts in expanding expertise and knowledge about AI in the country.

Data is a collection of facts that has been translated into a form that computers can process. Whichever industry you work in, or whatever your interests, you will almost certainly come across a story about how data is changing the face of our world.

“Though AI is essential to expand our future, proper legislations are crucial to implement ethics and rules to use intelligent tools in a safe way,” Dr. Idoia Salazar, co-founder and president, OdiselA, said during the conference. She noted that AI is now a must in today’s world.

“These types of technologies play a critical role in today’s businesses and companies. But even though these tools provide great benefits to the growth in the world, regulations and ethics must be applied to ensure safety,” she said.

She noted that responsible Artificial Intelligence includes fairness, transparency, inclusiveness, accountability, privacy and security, and reliability and safety. ChatGPT was a topic discussed by some of the experts. May Li, Marketing VP, Huawei ME, talked about the rise of chatGPT, an AI system that can understand human language and respond accordingly.

“AI brings new application opportunities for carriers. For an enterprise, process automation, enterprise digitalization, auxiliary production, and full productivity are all benefits of using the new technology,” the expert said.

She added that with AI, consumers will experience enhanced calls, enhanced experience, and enriched life. Technologies like chatGPT, one of the fastest growing apps of all time, can definitely enhance the world we live in, bringing multiple benefits to everyone.

However, new technologies still pose grave dangers to societies and should be handled carefully, experts noted. Dr. Manal, founder, and CEO of AI Lab NVIDIA pointed out some of the negatives that could arise regarding generative AI.

Generative AI is a subset of artificial intelligence that leverages machine learning techniques to generate data output that’s like data it’s been trained on. “These AI models are often trained on large data sets, meaning they can include sensitive or private information.

Although efforts have been put in place to minimize this, the risk will always occur,” Dr. Manal said. She also stressed the importance of consent. “Users are not always aware that they are interacting with an AI model or a bot, as well as the kind of data it is collecting.

AI models also learn and create bias, which can lead to unfair outcomes.” AI models can also engage in and distribute misinformation, which is a big problem that chatGPT suffers from. “Therefore it is important for users to understand that these models may not give factual or actual information,” the expert said.
