HM King hails role of press in Bahrain progress

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa commended the Bahraini press’ leading role and its efforts to serve society and support national development.

He also highlighted the local press’s coverage of topics that are of importance to the kingdom and its citizens, and that contribute to spreading awareness and knowledge.

HM the King was speaking as he received members of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) led by Chairman Isa Al Shaiji.

His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM’s Personal Representative, and His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM’s Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs attended the meeting.

During the meeting, HM congratulated the newly elected BJA board, wishing them continued success in achieving the association’s objectives towards further advancement of journalism in Bahrain.

Credibility, impartiality and professionalism

HM King Hamad commended the credibility, impartiality and professionalism of the Bahraini press; its commitment to defending the Kingdom’s interests, security and stability; and documenting national achievements.

HM the King praised the progress of national press over the decades, which is reflective of Bahrain’s track record in education and culture. His Majesty affirmed his constant keenness to ensure freedom of opinion and expression, which is a determining factor in the development of the press in Bahrain.

He relayed his best wishes to all journalists and columnists in local newspapers, and his appreciation for their great efforts in serving their country and citizens.

Royal support and appreciation

BJA chairman Al Shaiji expressed his gratitude to HM the King for receiving the board, which reflects HM’s support and appreciation of the press and media in Bahrain.

He also expressed his appreciation to HM for his directives on adhering to professional press values and addressing misleading information. Al Shaiji concluded by highlighting the achievements for local press under the leadership of HM the King, which includes HM’s support for issuing an advanced law for the press and media, and for the freedom of opinion and expression.
