His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has made it clear that the benefits of the Abraham Accords should reach every citizen of Bahrain, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the undersecretary for political affairs at the Foreign Affairs Ministry, said yesterday.

Addressing the N7 Conference on Trade between Israel and its Arab neighbours, the undersecretary stressed the importance of multilateral diplomacy and said peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding, which are the principles on which the Accords were built, will result in tangible benefits for the citizens.

Only through working together can it be achieved and the benefits be brought to the people, he said. Israel Ambassador to Bahrain Eitan Na’eh noted that shipping worth $170 billion took place in the East-West route, excluding oil, in 2017.

If a quarter of that trade is carried out over land, the business would grow to $440 billion of trade by 2030 and between U$500 billion to one trillion by 2050. The Israel ambassador was addressing the conference hosted by N7 Initiative, a partnership aimed at promoting free trade between Israel and its Arab neighbours.

The N7 Conference on Trade, which is being held at the Sofitel Bahrain hotel yesterday and today by the Atlantic Council and the Jeffrey M Talpins Foundation, saw attendance by high-level trade representatives of Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Israel, Morocco, Egypt, Sudan, and the United States.

Talking on the sidelines of the conference, US ambassador to Bahrain Steven C Bondy said,

“The N7 conference is a way to bring in non-governmental voices to support peace throughout the Middle East.

Bahrain, under His Majesty’s wise guidance, has decided to sign the Abraham Accords and now we’re trying to move forward to build ties between Israel and all of its Arab partners. Today, the conference would specifically be on building a bridge of trade and in fact the Bahrain government very kindly and with great generosity is hosting this conference.

We’re going to see some very useful outcomes that will allow trade, investment, and commercial relations to build further within the friendly nations.”
