The National Institution of Human Rights (NIHR) yesterday warmly received the report issued by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), which removed Bahrain from the list of Human Rights Priority Countries.

This significant development acknowledges Bahrain’s commendable strides in progressive reforms achieved over the past years. The NIHR attributed this achievement to Bahrain’s unwavering commitment to upholding international covenants and laws pertaining to human rights.

Such commitment is supported by the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, with the valuable support and guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

The institution highlighted the FCDO’s report, which lauded the active participation of Bahraini citizens in the decision-making process through the Shura and Representatives councils, as well as the significant involvement of women in national progress.

The report also recognised Bahrain’s global humanitarian efforts and initiatives in promoting principles of tolerance, peace, love, and harmonious coexistence among people, while fostering interreligious, intercultural, and intercivilizational communication and dialogue.

This acknowledgment reflects the tangible reality of Bahrain’s progress in the field of human rights. On behalf of the Council of Commissioners members and General Secretariat, Chairman Ali Ahmed Al Derazi of the NIHR extended heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty the King for this remarkable achievement.

He also expressed deep appreciation to His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister for recognizing the role of the NIHR Council of Commissioners in promoting human rights within the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Al Derazi affirmed that the institution will steadfastly continue its mandate, as prescribed by the law, to effectively translate the royal directives for the promotion and protection of human rights.

“This commitment is in line with Bahrain’s adherence to all international covenants and laws related to human rights, with the aim of continuously enhancing the human rights system with transparency and independence.”
