Universities in Malaysia can provide quality education that is accredited by Western universities at less than half the cost of other countries, Malaysian Ambassador Shazryll Zahiran said yesterday.

Announcing a two-day education fair of Malaysian universities and colleges at the Crowne Plaza Convention Centre in Manama from July 21 to 23, the ambassador said 16 universities from Malaysia will be participating in the education fair being conducted by the Embassy of Malaysia in Manama in association with two private educational agencies.

Students and parents can explore the educational prospects in Malaysia by interacting directly with the officials of the universities and colleges from 4pm to 8pm on July 21 and 22, a press statement said.

Talking about the advantages of studying in Malaysia, the ambassador said students would get the same quality of education as in Singapore or other countries but at a significantly lesser cost.

While a degree in Medicine would cost between BHD20,000 and 25,000 annually in Singapore, it would only cost BHD7,500 to 9,900 in Malaysia, his excellency explained. Many universities in Malaysia have tie-ups with universities in the West and offer degrees that are accredited by those universities, he added.

Similarly, the cost of living is much lower than in neighbouring countries and in the West, which makes it possible for international students to live comfortably while studying in Malaysia, his excellency stated.

The response to last year’s educational expo was overwhelming, as over 2,500 students registered, with 20 of them winning scholarships. This year, around 1,500 pre-registrations have already been made, the ambassador said.

His Excellency revealed that over 600 students from Bahrain have already studied in Malaysia, while around 6,000 students from the GCC region undertook their studies there.
