United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) Executive Director Maimunah Sharif lauded Bahrain’s efforts in providing housing services to citizens, which she saw during her recent visit to the Kingdom.

Sharif highlighted Bahrain’s success and progress in international reports, wishing the Kingdom further success and progress. The UN-Habitat official was speaking as she met with Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amna bint Ahmed Al Romaihi in the United Nation Headquarter (UN) in New York.

The meeting discussed housing and urban planning topics at the United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development. Bahrain’s delegation participated in a forum on innovative and sustainable solutions for adequate housing, showcasing their commitment to sustainable services.

They also reviewed the outcome of the UN-Habitat meetings held last month in Nairobi, and Bahrain’s keenness on joint decisions on the sustainability of housing services for citizens. Al Romaihi highlighted the latest development in the ministry’s housing projects to provide citizens with services in collaboration with the private sector.

She underscored the achievement of the second edition of the Housing Finance Exhibition last June, which had more than 24,000 visitors, as a positive sign of the citizens’ interest and keenness to benefit from all types of financing services.

The minister also showcased the primary phase of the government land development rights program, which was embodied in 93% of housing unit reservations that reflects the success of the government’s vision in adopting innovative policies aimed at providing immediate and sustainable housing services.
