Bahrain’s housing policies highlighted at UN session

Bahrain’s efforts to provide housing to citizens were outlined during a panel discussion session held at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York, the USA.
 
Addressing the session, Housing Minister Amna bint Ahmed Alromaihi highlighted the housing finance programme and the Government Land Rights Programme in partnership with the private sector, aimed to speed up services citizens.
 
The Kingdom of Bahrain organized the session on the sidelines of their  participation in the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2023 held under the theme "Accelerating the Recovery from the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at all levels,' where the Kingdom's Second Voluntary National Review on the progress toward achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) was presented. 
 
The heads of delegations of the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Republic of Singapore, the Republic of Kenya, the Dominican Republic, and the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme attended the session.
 
Alromaihi highlighted the development of social housing in Bahrain, which began in the early 1960s with  the inauguration and inauguration of the Isa Town then Hamad Town in 1984, then Madinat Zayed, and all the way to the five housing cities. Which the ministry has been implementing since 2012, which are Salman City, Khalifa City, East Hidd City, East Sitra City, in addition to Al-Ramli.
 
Addressing the session, she highlighted the Government’s efforts to implement the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to construct 40,000 housing units.
 
She stressed the Government’s drive to fast-track housing services, mainly through the Government Land Rights Development Programme, which is being carried out in partnership with the private sector.
 
She highlighted that the needs of women are taken into account in housing projects, thanks to HM the King’s care, with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister.
 
She highlighted the drive of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King, to promote housing services for women.
 
 She underlined the ministry’s efforts to provide housing services to people with special needs, vowing to continue efforts to provide decent housing in line with the Government Programme (2023-2026) and implement the 11th sustainable development goal.
