Bahrain Housing, Sustainable Development Ministers meet UAE delegation

Bahrain's Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, HE Amna bint Ahmed Al Romaihi, and the Minister of Sustainable Development, HE Noor bint Ali Alkhulaif, met with the delegation from the UAE on the sidelines of the United Nations High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2023 to discuss ways to expand their partnership on sustainable development.

The two sides discussed opportunities for knowledge sharing, capacity building, and technical cooperation.

During their meeting with HE Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Minister of Sustainable Development and Deputy Minister of Cabinet Affairs For Competitiveness and Knowledge Exchange of the UAE, and HE Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), Minister Al Romaihi emphasised the role of innovation and partnerships in accelerating the SDGs.

In the housing industry, the government has partnered with the private sector to develop innovative policies that provide immediate and sustainable housing solutions for Bahraini citizens. These policies include the Housing Financing Programmes and the Government Land Development Programme, which have helped families obtain adequate housing in a short period of time, she explained.

Meanwhile, Minister Al Khulaif highlighted the importance of regional and international cooperation in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to working with the UAE and other countries to advance the SDGs and build a more sustainable future.

HE Abdullah Nasser Lootah praised Bahrain’s progress in achieving the SDGs and shared the UAE’s keenness to expand its cooperation with Bahrain on sustainable development, reiterating that many greater things can be achieved by increased collaboration.

For his part, HE Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi encouraged the continuation of discussions to explore ways to further strengthen the various engagements between the two countries on sustainable development and to identify opportunities that serve the common interests of both nations.
