Northern Governor reviews Ashura preparations at Maatams in Bahrain

Northern Governor Ali bin Al Sheikh Abdul Hussein Al Asfoor yesterday reviewed the ongoing preparation for the commemoration of Ashura at various maatams in the governorate.

During the visit, Al Asfoor urged the heads of maatams and processions to take all necessary precautionary measures in close cooperation with paramedics.

The governor also expressed his admiration for the keynote speech delivered by General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, the Minister of Interior, during a meeting attended by the heads and officials responsible for community centres (maatams) and members of the Husseinyah processions, in honour of the Ashura season.

During the meeting, the minister emphasised the significance of honouring the spiritual and specific aspects of the event and highlighted the importance of channelling all efforts towards addressing security and social phenomena in the community.

Moreover, Governor Al Asfoor reaffirmed the Northern Governorate's commitment to promoting health, cultural, and sports programs throughout the year. These initiatives aim to raise community awareness and actively engage the youth in cooperation with civil society institutions.
