Work Ministry awards BD24 million worth projects in Q2

The Ministry of Works awarded 27 projects worth BD24,302,964 in the second quarter of 2023 through the Tenders and Auction board, said Ibrahim bin Hassan Al-Hawaj, the Minister of Works.

Among them, twelve were for the road sector, nine for sanitation, four for buildings and maintenance, and two for technical services. For the road sector, the ministry said it allocated BD15,385,171 for various projects.

Key initiatives included the development of Sheikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa Street, the reconstruction of internal roads in the Sitra complex, and maintenance works for the Sheikh Khalifa bin Salman Bridge.

In the sanitation sector, projects worth BD8,421,811 were awarded. Significant endeavors comprised the construction of the main sewage line and treated sewage water line to serve East Sitra Island, along with consultancy services for supervising the construction works of the sewage line from Hamad Town to Buri.

Additionally, the construction sector received BD398,598 worth of awarded projects, which included consultancy services for the design and supervision of the Karzakkan beach and walkway project.

Furthermore, the ministry said it launched 33 tenders valued at BD79,962,933 during the second quarter. These tenders covered 17 projects in the road sector, seven in sanitation, six in maintenance and buildings, and three in technical services.

Major projects opened in the road sector involved road construction for Bahrain Airport, Phase III - Package One, advisory services for the Safety Assessment Programme on the road network in Bahrain, and development projects for Isa Town North Intersection, Al Mahzoura Street, and Street 37 - Phase Two.

Additionally, seven projects were initiated for the sewage sector, with significant focuses on repairing and renewing pumps and equipment at the tertiary treatment plant and the water pollution control center in Tubli.

The supply and installation of automatic power factor equipment for several sewage pumping stations and wastewater treatment plants were also included.

Projects launched in the construction and maintenance sector comprised the demolition and rebuilding of the wall of Ruqayyah Primary School for Girls, comprehensive maintenance work for Khawla Secondary School for Girls, Zubaida Primary School for Girls, Muharraq Primary School for Girls, Sitra Primary School for Girls, and Ibn Al-Nafis Elementary School for Boys.
