Death of Filipino worker still under probe
The accidental death of a Filipino worker at his worksite two days ago is still under investigation, sources confirmed to DT News. The authorities concerned are working on this issue to determine the exact cause of his death. Whether the death was an unavoidable accident or the lack of safety measures caused the accident could be cleared only by next week.
Luis Mendoza Matunding (56) died on Tuesday when a hanging metal object fell from a crane hitting him hard on his head at a construction site in North City, killing him instantly. Another worker suffered minor injuries in the incident.
Undersecretary at the Ministry of Labour Subah Salem Al Dossari had issued a statement on that day itself, asking all the companies to follow proper safety measures to avoid similar fatal accidents in future at the worksites.
“It is the responsibility of the companies to ensure the smooth and safe working environment for their workers as the lives of the workers are very precious and the companies should take all the necessary measures for their safety,“ Dossari had stated.
Philippine Embassy in Bahrain was not available for comment. Earlier, Vice Counsel at Philippne Embassy Ricky Aragon had said that the Ministry of Interior was doing an investigation on the incident and when it was over the body of the deceased would be flown back to the Philippines.
