Labour Minister Jameel Humaidan commended companies and institutions for their adherence to the outdoor work ban in place in Bahrain during the months of July and August.
The minister made the remarks during a field tour of various work sites to ensure compliance with Ministerial Resolution No. 3 of 2013.
The four-hour ban, from midday until 4 pm, aims to protect workers and ensure their safety from heat stress, sunstroke, and other summer-related diseases. It also aims to reduce occupational accidents during the hottest months.
Humaidan stated that the decision has both humanitarian and economic dimensions, as it contributes to increased productivity. In this regard, the minister stressed the importance of rescheduling working hours to avoid project delays.
"The top priority is safeguarding workers’ health and enhancing efficiency while reducing occupational injuries," the minister said as he highlighted the need to strengthen training programmes for workers on first aid and other occupational safety and health measures.
Those violating the ban will face penalties as per Article 192 of the Civil Labour Law, issued under Law No. 36 of 2012. This includes jail terms not exceeding three months and a fine ranging from BD500 to BD1000, or one of these two penalties.
