Bahrain Post, which traces its origins back to 1884, when it transformed the communication landscape of Manama, is now poised to take yet another major step by overhauling its ownership and business model.
This strategic move, according to Bahrain Post, is to stay relevant in the face of challenges posed by lightning-fast emails that question the significance of traditional postal services.
The primary objective is to navigate the uncharted waters of the digital revolution by liberating itself from Government funding and working as an independent and profitable business venture.
The plan is to become self-funded and profitable without compromising on Bahrain’s international obligations. To achieve this ambitious objective, the Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunication has also launched a tender seeking consultancy services, attracting global majors.
The tender, according to the Tender Board, attracted healthy competition. The objective is to assess the current situation regarding people, processes, and technology, identifying opportunities to leverage strengths and align options that align with Bahrain Post's objectives.
Competing fiercely for the opportunity to guide this transformation, five major players have submitted bids. IOS Partners quoted BHD 105,054.400, Arthur D. Little (Bahrain) proposed BHD 562,210.000, KPMG Advisory submitted BHD 478,390.000, Oliver Wyman bid BHD 940,500.000, and EY Consulting's offer stands at BHD 267,190.000.
With all bids accepted, the Tender Board is presently evaluating the feasibility of each proposal.
Being one of the oldest postal services in the Gulf, the service now operates a network of 12 post offices and offers individuals and businesses mail and parcel delivery services. In addition to standard postal services, Bahrain Post provides a wide range of non-postal services.
