Woman dies in house fire

A Bahraini woman suffocated to death in a tragic fire accident in Muharraq Governorate yesterday. The incident occurred at around 4pm when a house caught fire in Arad town, a few hundred metres to the south of Bahrain International Airport. Five people were rescued from the blaze.

Civil Defence Director General Brigadier Mohammed Showaiter yesterday said that “the woman’s death was due to smoke inhalation and Civil Defence firemen rescued five people before extinguishing the fire.”

He said that “the case was reported at 4:08pm and the Civil Defence teams reached the scene within five minutes.”

The Brigadier said investigations were initiated to ascertain the reasons behind the fire. Meanwhile, he called upon the public to fix smoke detector devices to avoid such incidents.

Sources confirmed to DT News that “the fire started on the first floor of the house.”

“The victim was a 28-year- old Bahraini woman, who was declared dead at the spot. Another woman sustained serious burns and two men aged 29 and 64 suffered breathing problems. All of the injured are Bahrainis and they were referred to the hospital,” sources added.
