Bahrain has taken significant steps to formulate laws that protect the rights of children. Social Development Minister Osama bin Ahmed Khalaf Al Asfoor noted the efficiency of the institutions that provide support in this area.

The ministry is keen to strengthen community partnerships with all different sectors and work to overcome challenges, he said. Al Asfoor was speaking as he met with National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) President Ali Ahmed Al Derazi.

Dr. Houria Abbas Al Dairi, a member of the Board of Commissioners and Commissioner for Child Rights in the NIHR, attended the meeting. They discussed the responsibilities and duties of the commissioner pertaining to protecting children and their rights, looking after their interests in line with national and international conventions as well as supporting the environmental policies for children.

The two sides highlighted the importance of cooperation with government, private and civil sectors as well as Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs). Al Derazi and Commissioner for Child Rights praised the efforts of the ministry and its support for partner entities to develop their projects and programmes that serve and guarantee the rights of the child.
