Back-to-school shopping is booming in Bahrain as the two-month summer break comes to an end, with many stores providing bundle packages and discounts to entice shoppers.

Parents and children are ready to restock on essentials like textbooks, uniforms, and bags, according to store employees.

Students are impacted by the shifting trends in school supplies, they added, in addition to the need for larger-sized things like backpacks and shoes, as well as the replacement of notebooks, pencils, and backpacks due to wear and tear.

Union Stationery on Exhibitions Avenue is seeing a significant number of online inquiries for back-to-school items, especially backpacks and trolley bags, said the store’s marketing executive, Amna Bakhsh.

Anticipating the high demand, they are offering bundled packages that include all necessary school items in one box.

Lunch boxes and pencil boxes have emerged as the most popular and top-selling products at the store, in addition to the bundled packages, she said.

Al Anwar Discount Centre at Tubli concentrates on offering products at lower prices and has come up with unique discount strategies by bundling two or three products together, says its operations manager Habeeb.

He is anticipating a surge in demand from next week on, as families will only return from vacations then. Along with high-end stores and specialty stores, supermarkets and photocopy stores are also expecting higher sales from back-to-school essentials.

Junaid Raza, an employee at Mumtaz Supermarket in Gudaibiya, says the store has stocked up on stationery items in view of the school's reopening, and children from nearby areas are coming in to buy pencils, drawing books, notebooks, pens, and geometry boxes.

However, the store does not offer any special offers at the moment, the staff said.

But Noora Photocopy Store at Isa Town is seeing consistent sales of stationery items throughout the year.

Adil, an employee at the store, said a decline in sales is seen only during the summer. Parents are purchasing school items in bulk, and there is also an increase in the number of customers getting passport-size photographs for school records, he stated.
