A total of six companies have bid around BD1 million each for the project of construction of a cycle track along Zallaq Highway and Gulf of Bahrain avenues in Sakhir.

When the bids issued on behalf of the Ministry of Works were opened yesterday by the Tender Board, the highest bid was for BD1,121,704, while the lowest bid was for BD931,741.

A request for proposal (RFP) tender was opted for for the ambitious project, which has already received an enthusiastic and positive response from the public.

An RFP tender opens up competition and encourages a variety of alternative proposals for consideration by the project’s planners.

The scope of the project consists of supplying and laying road base materials, adjusting utility covers, laying asphalt layers for the cycle track, and installing the traffic signs.

The project follows a national campaign announced in 2020 for safer roads for cyclists and motorists.

A tender was issued for the project on July 25th and closed on Sunday.

As the project materialises, it is anticipated that the new cycle track will contribute to the overall improvement of transportation infrastructure in the area, supporting the government’s vision for a greener and more cyclist-friendly Bahrain.
