The Muharraq Municipal Council held its second coordination meeting with relevant authorities to address the issue of abandoned and dilapidated houses.
Abdulaziz Al Naar, Chairman of the Muharraq Municipal Council, announced that a committee would be formed to tackle the problem of abandoned homes at risk of collapse.
The council identified 213 abandoned houses in Muharraq Governorate, some of which pose significant dangers. The council formed a body comprising the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), Ministry of Interior, Muharraq Governorate, Land Registry and Survey Authority, Ministry of Health, and the executive body of the Muharraq Municipality to handle this matter.
During the meeting, it was decided to create a specialised team with expertise in technical, engineering, and legal aspects. This team’s objective is to compile a comprehensive inventory of these homes based on their respective districts and classify them according to potential risks.
The risks will be evaluated considering various factors, such as structural hazards, unsanitary conditions that promote infestations of insects and rodents, and the misuse of some houses for activities that pose security and moral concerns.
