World gets giddy at WEC
Hundreds of fans had a fabulous weekend as they went home happy after being able to meet their favourite motor racing drivers at this weekend’s WEC Bapco 6 Hours of Bahrain race, with the eighth and final round being held yesterday at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
Many fans queued up on the Pit Lane to get autographs of their favourite drivers, take selfies with the members of different teams and get a close- up of their cars and the nearby garages during the Pit Walk.
One of the most popular teams was the Porsche team of Timo Bernhard, Mark Webber and Brendan Hartley, who had a long line of enthusiastic fans waiting for autographs and a chance to say hello and do a selfie.
Toyota Racing team also proved popular, which comprise of Anthony Davidson who has done test drives in Bahrain in the past, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakakima.
Local interest was in the form of Abu Dhabi Proton Racing Team that include UAE national Khaled Al Qubaisi along with along with Italian Marco Mapelli and Austrian Klaus Baucher.
Some fans managed to get at least a dozen sets of autographs out of the 32 teams in the half hour allocated.
Also a raffle was organised for all those in the Main Grandstand with prizes including an iPhone 6s 16GB, iPhone 6S 64GB, Note 32GB, Apple iWatch 38mm, Apple iWatch 42mm, Samsung S6 32GB, Sony Xperia Z3 Plus, Huawei P8, HTC E9 Plus, HTC Re Camera, Bitfit HR, Nokia Lumina 640XL, Lenovo Vibe Shot and a Samsung A8.
Children also had the opportunity to win lucky prizes among the 2,000 gifts! Also in the vending area to keep people entertained were roaming performers including globally renowned acts such as Basketball Man, Mr Banana, Papito, Mr Tartuffo, Sam Goodburn and Esther Fuge and the TNT Show who helped keep the family friendly atmosphere across the circuit premises over the weekend.
