The Court of Cassation has issued a final verdict, sentencing an Asian man to five years in prison and permanent deportation from the country.
The individual in question was found guilty of blackmailing and threatening his employer with the release of an indecent video on social media platforms unless he was paid a sum of money.
The prosecution presented evidence that the defendant had coerced the victim into paying a monetary amount by threatening to expose compromising material that would harm the victim’s reputation.
The defendant’s actions included intentionally causing distress to the victim by misusing wired and wireless communication devices. According to the details of the case, the defendant was employed by a company owned by the victim.
The victim had requested the defendant to delete a private video recorded by the office’s surveillance cameras, which contained indecent content.
However, the defendant retained a copy of the video. After the defendant left his employment at the company, he contacted the victim and demanded a cash payment in exchange for not releasing the recorded video.
Fearing the potential consequences of the video being made public, the victim sent the defendant a sum of BD9,000. Despite receiving the payment, the defendant continued to blackmail the victim, who eventually had no choice but to report the matter to the authorities.
