Nearly four decades after the Adhari Waterfall Monument, one of the historical landmarks in Bahrain, was built, the government is considering rebuilding it.

The proposal was put forward by the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture in a new tender floated through the Tender Board last Sunday.

Though the ministry issued a tender on July 23 inviting bids for carrying out the maintenance works at the waterfall, the new tender floated last Sunday seeking bids for both renovation and rebuilding after demolition.

The monument was built in the late 1980s at the time of the construction of the King Fahd Causeway, which leads to the Shaikh Isa Bin Salman Highway all the way to Mina Salman.

In its latest move, the ministry is seeking bids for the two options of renovation as well as rebuilding.

The option for renovation is similar to the tender issued on July 23, which includes crack repair, structural repair of some areas, and painting works on the wall.

The second option of rebuilding includes the demolition of the waterfall and rebuilding it using reinforced fibreglass as an external structure supported from the inside with a steel structure.

It also includes all associated construction works to complete the project, such as earthwork, foundations, steel frames, etc., as stated in the tender notice.

As per the notice, the contract duration is for two months, and the tender will be closed on October 4, with bids slated to be opened on October 5.

A decision on whether the historical monument should be renovated or rebuilt would now depend on the number and quality of the bids received for each of the options laid out by the ministry.
